5 Ways to Practice Self-Care

Janet Gilbert

Self-care is not selfish! I can not stress enough how important it is to take care of yourself. The daily struggles of life will wear us out, IF we allow it to. A lot of us are trying to balance so many things, but we forget that we can not pour from an empty cup. So my question is, what are you doing to fill your cup? If you are struggling to find the answer, we want to help. Check out some ways to practice self-care below.

Journaling

This sounds simple, but it works! All you need is a notebook, if you do not already have a journal, and a pen. Write down whatever thoughts come to your mind. You can also use this time to reflect and have a conversation with God. Whatever your heart desires, write it down.

Listen to music

Listening to music can reduce anxiety, improve your mood, and lower blood pressure. I have found listening to music to be very soothing. You can find relaxing playlists on Youtube, Apple Music, Spotify, or Pandora.

Take a walk

It is time to get active! Taking a walk helps improve your sleep routine, reduces anxiety, and boosts your energy. The good thing about exercise is that it does not take much to feel a difference. 20-30 minutes a day is all you need. Not only does walking contribute to your mental health, but it improves your physical health as well.

Read a motivational book

We all need an extra push every now and then. Reading has helped me overcome a lot of tough times. Reading helps keep your brain active and healthy. A few of my favorite books to read include Atomic Habits, The Four Agreements, and Battlefield of the Mind.

Take a bubble bath

Yes! Taking a bath can help you refill your cup. Take this time to relax and clear your mind. Lock the door, put on soothing music, light a candle, and unwind. I love to add Dr. Teals Sooth and Sleep Lavender Body Wash to my baths. It smells amazing and it's free from sulfates.

I hope that I have encouraged you to practice self-care more. Remember the smallest changes make the biggest impact. Take care of yourself. ;)
